*If only* writing the best children’s book EVER was enough to get it onto shelves and into a child’s hands… but, we know that’s not the real deal. So let’s talk about those tertiary resources for authors to help launch your project into the marketplace as an author! Things like websites, social media, newsletters, photos, and more.
…did I just see you yawn? For most writers, it’s the not-so-fun part of this whole process, but I gotta tell you it’s necessary.
BUT! Don’t worry, after many years in this business, I’ve had a chance to try out all sorts of resources and platforms for running an author biz, so I’m giving you some shortcuts today. π₯³ (I’m one of the people that cheers “Hooray!” when I hear about marketing!) These tools are designed to help simplify the work of writing and help you put your best foot forward on the internet.
Ready? Buckle up, let’s talk shop. π
βShowit (Use “KidlitLab” for a free month!)β
This is the website platform I use, and I love its maximum customization without having to learn code or use a developer. You can grab a template (free from them, or check out Tonic below!) and build something beautiful in hardly any time. Plus, it has WordPress integration if blogging is your thing.
βTonic (Use KIDLIT15 for 15% off!)β
If you want to publish, then a great website is a must. This is the designer I used for my personal website (Psst! Template: “Margarita”). Their templates are gorgeous and easy to customize.
βSquarespace (Try it free for two weeks!) β
This is another website platform option for you. If you prefer to set it and forget it, Squarespace is the straightforward solution. Not as customizable as Show.it, but still a solid platform.
βElevaeβ
Very few people have time or money to have a constant supply of fresh pics in their marketing, so I turn to Elevae to supplement the professional photos of me and my books. Specifically designed for creatives, Elevae will elevate your look in no time flat.
βFlodesk (Get a 30 day free trial + 50% off!)β
Quite possibly the most beautiful and simple email builder on the market. You’ll look more design-savvy than you are, inspiring you to write for daaaaays.
βSubstack (Getting started is free!)β
Want to start writing frequently but don’t want to manage a blog? Substack is a popular platform for publishing blogs and newsletters for writers. It’s also a great way to get your work in front of a lot of readers (and other writers)!
βTeachable (25% off the first three months)β
Teachable is where I host all my courses and it’s the perfect one-stop shop to share what you know and get paid for it.
